Task Description: This week, our writing task was to write persuasive writing. We had to choose if we were against zoos or for zoos, I chose for zoos. This is my persuasive zoo writing!

Zoos are exciting to be at and helpful to learn more about animals. As long as the zoos are: well managed, have good zookeepers, and workers, I believe that we should have them.

My opinion is that we should have zoos. Zoos used to have small cages and some used the animals for entertainment like monkeys. They made the monkeys do human-like activities (tea-parties, smoke, etc.) but now they give the animals more natural-like environments, with sound and treat them with respect. Zookeepers make sure visitors don’t tap or bang on the glass, they give animals more space, and engage the animals in activities so that it isn’t just ‘walk around, eat, sleep, poop.’ for the animal.

Zoos also have vets that can care for the animals when they need it. If a new animal they’re going to take into the zoo is wounded, then the vets can take care of them until they are able to meet other animals. If the wild animal is a child and is lost from their parent, they will either not be able to hunt/get food, fend for themselves and will most likely die. With zoos, if they find the animal, they’ll be able to take care of it and provide food for the child.

Another reason is, when an animal is endangered, zoos have breeding programmes to help the population of the animal. They also give safety to the endangered animal. When you pay to go to a zoo, they can use the money to help with their programmes or donate it to help wildlife and the environment. We’re able to learn about what the animal eats at the zoo, more facts about the animal and we get to learn stuff actually from the zookeepers who take care of the animals instead of getting facts from google. 

 In conclusion, zoos help animals, we visit them and watch the animals do their activities in the zoo. Back then, they used to be harmful to the animals, eating human food, getting ridden on and stuff. Now they aren’t and treat the animals with more respect. There are pros and cons about zoos, though In my opinion we should keep having zoos.

So, that is why I believe that we should have zoos! Zoos help the population of animals, they also provide safety and food for the animals. We learn about animals, we get to see them in real life instead of just pictures and videos. So yeah, these are all the reasons why I think we should have zoos.
