That was Matariki Poem

MATARIKI

Have you ever seen Matariki?

Sure you have.

Remember that time, when you were

outside taking out the garbage early in the morning.

You looked up at the dark night sky being lit up by a cluster of 9 stars.

Remember staring at the seven sisters. The beauty making you almost forget that the garbage bag was in your hands?

That was Matariki.

Have you ever felt Matariki?

Sure you have.

Remember that time, when you were fishing with your dad.

The amount of bait in the bucket getting smaller as you kept failing to catch a fish. The water splashing on your arms and clothes from the fish jumping around while on the hook.

The water trickling down your arms, cold but also cooling.

That was Waiti and Waita.

Have you ever heard Matariki?

Sure you have.

Remember that time, you were sitting on a chair outside getting fresh air.

The trees rustling because of the strong wind. The wind howling so loud that

It felt like it was directly blowing into your ears?

That was Ururangi.

Have you ever smelt Matariki?

Sure you have.

Remember that time when you and your family went outside to do fireworks after the rain stopped? The smell of fireworks mixed with the smell of petrichor filling your lungs.

That was Waipuna-a-rangi.

Have you ever tasted Matariki?

Sure you have.

Remember that time, you were at the dining table.

You grabbed a berry from the delicious looking bowl of fresh berries and fruits.

The berry popped in your mouth, fresh and juicy. It tasted so good you couldn’t help but grab more.

That was Tupuarangi.

Task Description: For this task, we wrote a poem about Matariki using our 5 senses. We had to use the same template from a poem called “That was Summer” by Marci Ridlon but just make it Matariki instead of summer. This is my poem! I hope you enjoy reading it.

Unique artifacts from around the world all in one room!

Super interesting diaries from soldiers and nurses.

Enormous taxidermy elephant named Rajah is surrounded by a crowd.  For lunch, all of the groups

United on the field outside of the museum.

Many people rolling down the hill into the leaves before the bus arrives.

Task Description:  For writing, Room 12 did a poem about camp, but if you didnt go camp you could do a poem about something else. I did an acrostic poem about the school trip I went to last year!
