Te Tūhura – Aku Tino Mea

Task Description: For this Cybersmart challenge, it was about learning to use the Explore tool to add images on google slides. First, you had to search Matariki on the explore tool and add an image of the star cluster. Then you search on the explore tool and add images of your favourite things on the next slide.

Nightshift – Great Beginnings Writing

Nightshift

Inside the office building was pitch black. Without the flashlight I probably wouldn’t be able to see a thing! 10:00 pm, my shift ends at midnight.. The slightest bit of noise echoes through the building, the sound of my footsteps walking around is the only sound I could hear in the entire building. This was my first ever time doing an actual night shift, yesterday they just gave me a tutorial. As I was checking the fourth room, “Oh man.” I sighed. My flashlight became dim, I think the batteries were almost dead.

I could barely see anything with the amount of light my flashlight had. I quickly go into a random room and rummage for batteries in the desk’s draws before my flashlight could fully turn off. “No batteries’ ‘ I walked out of the room. I had to get new batteries but I just started working here as a security guard yesterday, I had no idea where batteries would be. I went upstairs to a floor that I’ve never been on before. They didn’t show this floor to me during the tutorial. I walked down the hallway only looking at the ground with my flashlight. My flashlight blinked three times right before fully turning off. “Damn.” I said under my breath.

Now, I’m lost in the dark with no flashlight. “Oh wow, what a perfect horror movie scenario” I thought to myself. But I mean, those are fake, nothing like in the movies is gonna happen in real life. So as long as I find something I can get light from, I’m good for the rest of the shift.

I was still walking down the hallway… I think?? I can’t see anything at all so I’m just walking in a straight line until I hit a wall. All of sudden this weird feeling of fear overcomes me. I take a step, and then stop. Right as I stopped walking I heard tapping on the wall that sounded like it was coming from right behind me. “Tap, tap, tap.” The sound echoes in the hallway. “What the hell is behind me?!” Andrew screamed in his head, his eyes widening.

Andrew frantically starts speed walking, the fear taking over his body. The tapping came closer every step he took. He tries to convince himself that the tapping isn’t real. The office building entrance is locked, he locked it. There is absolutely no chance that someone is right behind him. The tip of his foot hits a wall, he turns to his right and steps down. It’s a staircase, he runs down despite not being able to see the next step. The tapping becomes louder since its tapping on the hand rail. Unable to convince himself it’s not real, Andrew fully accepts that a person is chasing him. He runs as fast as he can down the stairs. The stairs seem like it’ll take forever to fully go to the entrance floor.

Then.. He finally reached the entrance floor. Two more steps he says, relieved. He rushes down the last two steps but trips on his untied shoelace and faceplants into the cold floor that could’ve broken his nose if it wasn’t a…

GASP! Andrew clenches onto his bedsheets and starts panting as if he ran a marathon. From shoulder to wrist his arms are covered in goosebumps. “Wow, what a dream.” he muttered, drowsy and cold, he almost snuggled back into his blanket until.. “BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP!!” the alarm screeches at him, “ time to get ready for work.” He groans.

Task Description: This is some pretty old writing, this was from Term 2 I believe? It was great beginnings writing, it means that we had to write a good introduction to hook our readers in. It also had to be very descriptive, then we could write the rest of the story. This is my great beginnings writing! I hope you enjoy it.

The Search for Mayor’s Pet Calf Daisy

The Search for Mayor’s Pet Calf Daisy

“YAWWWNNNN!!” Gerald woke up, it was a gray morning. The sun was hiding behind a bunch of clouds so there wasn’t much sunlight. However, something so surprising that even Barry the sloth was surprised… Gerald woke up ON TIME! The world must be ending, the clock didn’t have to scream at Gerald a thousand times just so that Gerald would wake up.

He jumped into his police officer uniform and went to work! There wasn’t that much work to do, he just wrote some stuff and fully finished the already almost completed cases. Break time! Having some instant coffee and watching the news channel on the small tv in the breakroom, “How relaxing.” Gerald thought.

Until… EEP EEP EEP!! The mayor was on screen talking after the sirens stopped. “My pet calf has gone missing, please call this number on screen if you have seen him around in stormon town.” The mayor sniffled, his nose, eyes and cheeks as red as beetroot. A cute image of a yellow calf with a tiny top hat appeared on screen next to the crying mayor. “Ahem, my apologies,” The mayor blew his nose like an elephant as he walked off screen. His executive assistant walked up to the lecter. “Yellow tiny calf with a top hat, jumps a lot and likes climbing things. If you have seen him, please call xx-xxx-xxx-xxx. The person who finds Daisy the calf will be rewarded with 300 cat dollars.” “300 CAT DOLLARS! That could get me like… 1 thousand jars of instant coffee!!” Gerald thought to himself.

Gerald ran like the flash out of the break room, ready to tell his other co-workers. However, they were already out to go find the calf to get the 300 cat dollars. “Money can get a lot of people moving.” Gerald sighed. Gerald ran back home, since Barry is a giant sloth, he could help Gerald find the calf and get the 300 cat dollars! (300 cat dollars is a lot of money compared to the other normal dollars because… cat.) Once he opened the door, he yelled out for Barry. But, Barry wasn’t there. Frozen with shock, Gerald stood still for a second. “I didn’t lose him again right? Not like last time, there’s no way he’s lost again.”

“GERALD IS THAT YOUR SLOTH?!” yelled out Gerald’s neighbor as loud as thunder. Gerald quickly turned around to see… Barry the sloth with the mayor’s calf Daisy on his back?! Barry was climbing down the biggest tree in town with Daisy, super slowly though, he’s a sloth so don’t forget that. Gerald ran to the tree, Stormon town is a tiny town so every building is pretty close by. Especially because the tree is huge, it’s bigger than a skytower!

Gerald called the Mayor’s executive assistant and told them that Barry found daisy. Vroom vroom!  A car came and parked near the humongous tree. After Gerald saw the really tall hat, he knew that was the mayor. “DAISYYYYY!” The mayor shouted as he was running to Daisy.  About to hug her, but she jumped over him. “So mean..” The mayor said in baby talk.

“Ahem,” The mayor turned towards Barry and Gerald. “Thank you for finding Daisy! Here is the 300 cat dollars.” The mayor grabbed 300 cat dollars out of his wallet. “Oh and! Here is a special gift for Barry.” His executive assistant brought pink glittery new roller skates out of the car. Barry let out a high pitched squeak out of excitement.

Daisy is found and Barry the sloth gets new glitter roller skates plus 300 cat dollars!

What a happy ending.

Task Description: For figurative language writing, I wrote this! I used a story starters website and it said “Write a story about a jumping cow” something something I forgot. I decided to combine it with characters from my old writing “Finding The Mayor’s Stolen Hat”. I guess the Mayor has a lot of problems.

Measuring Angles With Protractors

Task Description: For maths, were are learning about how to measure angles with protractors! When you measure an angle, you have to put one ray at 0°. You also have to put the intersection of the rays inside the small circle on the protractor. In the image above the question is “Is this angle acute, right or obtuse?”. An Acute angle is a angle less than 90° while and Obtuse angle is a angle more than 90°. A Right angle is exactly 90°. The angle in the image is a 90 angle because 60 – 150 is 90. 👍

Dogs are not the Best Choice for Pets

Dogs are not the Best Choice for Pets

In my opinion, dogs are not the best choice for pets, they’re big, they drool and you have to clean them like every single day. Unlike cats, they have to be groomed and bathed. They’re definitely not the best choice especially for new owners, and they are definitely not low maintenance. Even if they’re a small dog, the small dogs have a high reputation of being scrappy, barking a lot, and being less obedient.

Some might argue that they’re more energetic and loyal. But what makes you think that other animals cannot be too? Cats are able to be very energetic and loyal, the idea that they’re mean, scratch you and not energetic or loyal is completely a stereotype. Like orange cats! If you’ve seen videos, they’re very energetic, play around and love attention. Judging using stereotypes is not the best thing to do right? Also about walking dogs and getting fit, you’re able to go on walks with cats. There’s even harnesses and leashes for cats!

For new owners, dogs aren’t the best choice. I strongly believe this because most of the dog breeds are pretty big and high maintenance. First, They need to get groomed and other stuff. If you get a very fluffy dog whose fur grows fast, you have to pay to go groom them and get their fur trimmed, brushed and washed. If you can’t do that and unless you’re able to groom the dog yourself, the fur will get matted and dirty.  Which is basically animal cruelty to leave it like that. Also, 1 in 7 dogs have fleas. Making you get special shampoo or combs for it.

Secondly, there’s a lot of risks while owning dogs that a new owner might not be able to handle. While on walks, they try to eat a lot of stuff they find on the ground. Chocolate, foods that can make them constipated and other things can end up in their mouth while on walks. I’m pretty sure that you wouldn’t want your new dog to take a trip to the vet right after your first walk with it.

The huge bags of kibble for dogs may be big and save you money which is why new owners probably would buy them, but they’re low quality and highly processed. Dogs who are also fed kibble require regular teeth cleanings.

So, in conclusion, they’re not the only pet animals that can be energetic and loyal. Cats are able to be energetic and loyal, the idea that they’re mean and scratch you are stereotypes. They’re high maintenance and not good for new owners. They also bark and are loud. While on walks they poop and then you need to buy bags for that, causing you to lose money and go back to the store after the bags run out. They make you use tons of money, not just for toys but also for basic needs. These are all the reasons why I believe that dogs are not the best choice for pets.

Task Description: We had a reliever, and she basically told us to do persuasive writing. We could choose whatever topic we wanted so I chose, “Dogs are not the best choice for pets”. Also I’m not a dog hater, I love Clumber spaniels.

Matariki Festival Reflection

For the Matariki Festival on Thursday, I was in a group with Phyu Sin and CC and we did star balls.

What I found disappointing was that no people really did a full star ball. But it’s really hard and time consuming so I understand why. I also understand that you would want to explore everything at a festival and not stick to one station. There was also pretty limited time to walk around and explore before home time since the performances were more than 1 hour. Not that many people came to our station and the advertising posters couldn’t be put up because of a false advertisement error. We had no prizes like candy, so people probably weren’t that interested.

But there were also really fun stuff about it, I did stuff at other stations and got candy and other things. I think focusing on the fun things that happened are better than focusing on the disappointing stuff. I mean, at least there was way more than 1 person in total visiting our station. It might’ve not worked as planned but I think we had fun and people still visited our station. There was stuff we could’ve done better though, like maybe plan what prizes would be before the day before the festival.
